Organizing Through Our Home

Organizing through our home. About twice yearly I go bonkers. It’s true. January and right before school starts. Without fail. Probably because I am either 1) Bored out of my winter mind or 2) panicking at the thought of added chaos that school brings. So guess what time it is…panic time. School starts Sept 8th amid a global pandemic and with Kai starting TK, our plates are about to get that much fuller. Sooooo, I ordered my Artkive box to try and get a handle on last year’s art situation prior to this year’s art situation starting. And I’m going through cupboards. So on this organizing blog hop with my friends I’m revisiting our basket / storage solutions, organizing I’ve used through our home.

THE MASTER CLOSET

A definite favorite spot of mine, our master closet was our longest and hardest DIY to date. Matt built it from scratch using budget IKEA storage units. You can read about it here in part 1 and the final reveal with beautiful pictures by Ruth Eileen Photography.

Here’s the different items we used to pull this room together. I can’t recommend these bin clips enough. Being able to visually read what is in each basket makes navigating our closet so much easier. I love playing with texture and purposefully used different kinds and sizes of white washed baskets. Keep the unity by using all the same hangers. I opted for these ones with the black metal hook and light wood color.

AUBREY’S NURSERY CLOSET

Probably the sweetest room in our home and captured by Madison Rae Photography, Aubrey’s nursery was a dream to get to create, starting with her adorable closet. Matt hung light blush grasscloth on the back walls and I chalked it full of cute baskets and charming little hangers. We started with this adorable natural wood three drawer cabinet that Matt built in to the closet for a finished look. We took out the original upper cabinets and replaced them with large seagrass baskets from our old entryway. The blush and cream baskets are discontinued now at The Container Store. There’s some similar ones at Target with a aqua band or plain white with faux leather, both cute alternatives.

MUDROOM

Oh mudroom, the hardest working room in the house. The grime and dirt you see is quite remarkable. Little dirty hands and feet and this momma’s ongoing attempts to keep it tidy, the mudroom is the everything room. And it’s an uphill battle for sure but made easier with a few strategic baskets and drawer organizers. The four baskets you see above hold gloves and hats. The drawers–shoes divided in half by this wood shelf divider. The upper cabinets everything from winter toys to beach toys to garden supplies. For all those about to ask, the built ins are a custom color matched to our kitchen range which is RAL color 7031 Blue Grey. It truly is a stunning color.
