Homemade Seasoning Salt Gifts

Homemade gifts are always a lovely holiday idea. They’re thoughtful, often inexpensive and the perfect thing give away to those you love. A couple years ago my bestie sent me a little bottle of her mother-in-law’s seasoning salt recipe. It was the sweetest gift and I loved using it. Another year our wine shipment from our favorite wine makers Brick and Mortar sent some pinot noir salt in that shipment. Another win. And I realized, this may be the perfect holiday gift because it doesn’t take up that much space yet makes ordinary experiences like cooking a bit more awesome, unique and delicious. Here’s my sweet rendition of homemade seasoning salt gifts.

I found this perfect cardboard box that is the just right size for two little corked bottles. I tucked a dish towel (because who doesn’t love that!) in the bottom and pinched the middle to keep the glass from banging into each other. You can pick up some adorable dish towels from both specialty shops and HomeGoods, here’s an inexpensive bulk option on Amazon.

I used these adorable glass jars and tied these mini wooden spoons to them. Now I was only making a few so my measurements were more eyeballing. If you’re making a large quantity of these you’ll want to figure out how full you want to fill them and then make sure you have enough flake salt. I like this variety and it is relatively inexpensive compared to some I saw at the grocery store. When I broke the cost analysis down for making 24 of these cuties, it ended up being $2.68 per jar or $5.36 for the box of two. This didn’t include ribbon because I already had that on hand but I’ll link the one I used. It’s a pretty seaglass color.

SUPPLIES:

Small Glass Jars

Mini Wooden Spoons

Kraft Gift Box

Flake Salt

Ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS:

Start by gathering your supplies. I was only making a few so I used small glass bowls. Increase the ingredients depending on how many you are planning on making.

I made two different flavors: Lemon Thyme Seasoning and Pinot Noir Rosemary Seasoning. Both are delicious and really the options are endless. We used the lemon thyme seasoning on salmon the other night and it was wonderful.

The jars came with twine and labels but I opted to make my own. You can print them off here if you’d like to make this same variety of seasoning salts. I cut the labels into strips and taped them around the jars.  You could also try printing on sticky label paper and then just affix the sticky label to the front.

Lemon Thyme Flake Salt

1 C Flake Salt (I used a couple different varieties but that was only because I ordered too small a size initially)

Zest of one lemon

Leaves from several Sprigs of Fresh Thyme

Pinot Noir Rosemary Flake Salt

1 C Flake Salt

Splash of Pinot Noir (it doesn’t take much, think a teaspoon or two which after election week is great because you’ve got a bottle of wine leftover)

Chopped rosemary, several sprigs

I hope you’ve enjoyed this idea for sweet homemade seasoning salt gifts. Tie up with a pretty ribbon and stick from the yard. They certainly make the perfect hostess gift, house warming or holiday gift for those near and far. Beautiful pictures by Ruth Eileen Photography.
