Easy DIY Valentines for Kiddos

Last year was the first year I got to help the boys make Valentine’s to take to preschool. I loved it! Both the hunt for something cute and original as well as the added challenge of incorporating some of my boy’s interests. So this year I again went hunting. I stood in the party aisle of Target kidless and fancy free pondering. Until inspiration hit.

My goal was to come up with some candy-free Valentines options because well, selfishly, candy makes my kids go cray cray. I may be the only one out there that appreciates this, haha! But Momma’s of candy-crazed kids, I’ve got your back!

ROCKET SHIP KAZOOS

I found a party pack of Kazoos and thought, “Bingo! The perfect base of a rocket ship.” And what kid doesn’t loooove annoying their parents with that charming sound?

I free-hand traced the outline of a rocket ship, cut it out and let my kiddos color it with a silver crayon. Add some torn pieces of tissue paper to make rocket flames, a cute label and you’re ready to go. I used PicMonkey to create these labels. Print them out and you can make your own!

STICKY HAND VALENTINES

I love this one. I found a 6 pack of large sticky hands in the party aisle at Target. With a cute label and they make a perfect candy-free valentine. Which is a great alternative if there are food allergy concerns.

For this one I cut out the label and poked holes on either side with a threading needle. A regular hole punch seemed too big so I pushed the baking twine through the little group of holes I made with the needle. Add some glue from a glue stick to the back side of the label so it doesn’t slide around and then tie the twine in the back. Simple and adorable.

AIRPLANE PEN VALENTINE’S

Last year I made airplane valentine’s for Cade’s class using bubbles because he’s my airplane boy. Loves them. I was honestly looking for the same thing (why reinvent the wheel!?) but couldn’t find any bubbles. There seems to be a bubble shortage in Boston. I found this party pack of 15 pens in the crayon aisle at Michaels for $9.99. I had a 50% off coupon so I got this set for about $5 with tax. Not too shabby for an entire Kindergarten class.

With fun colors and pom poms I knew these would be a hit. Using standard white card stock I cut out wings and the little airplane tail and hot glued them together. Add some heart stickers on the wings, another adorable label and voila! Another cutie candy-free Valentine.

LOLLIPOP FLOWERS

We made lollipop flower valentine’s last year for Kai’s class. I love the Yum Earth brand. You can snag them just about anywhere at this point and they’re vegan, allergy-friendly, dye-free with no artificial anything.

I created a flower label to glue onto the front of the lollipop. I cut out a flower-shaped piece of tissue paper for the base of the flower and used the label as the inside of the flower. Add some cute leaves to the “stem” and the kiddos will love it.
