Welcome Baby Garden Party

I’ve dreamed of the day when we could throw parties in my cottage garden. So what a joy to gather with sweet friends and a dear momma to celebrate new baby Felicity. The flowers came straight from my garden and looked beautiful on this late summer tablescape. From a cute DIY sign Matt helped me make, to the Amazon tablecloth everyone should own, to hand-painted flower cookies, the details couldn’t have been sweeter. Scroll to the bottom to get the look.

A HANDMADE SIGN

I found some extra wood in the basement that I brushed with diluted white acrylic paint and then had Matt cut it smaller. He used that extra wood to create a little box which he built onto the sign so I could fill with flowers. It isn’t waterproof so I filled it with fresh cut flowers right before the party started. Perhaps the most time consuming part was the lettering. I found the fonts on PicMonkey, printed off the words and taped them to the sign. I then used a thumb tac to push through the paper into the wood, tracing the outline of the letters so when I removed the paper you could see an outline of the words. Finally, I used a sharpie to trace the outlines.

SETTING THE TABLE

I invested in two of these folding patio tables in the 47″ size. They are lovely even without a tablecloth and a great size to have on hand for extra guests at the holidays. They fold flat and hang on our garage wall when not in use. I loved the style and color of my small garden bistro set so much that I ordered 6 more matching chairs to entertain with. They also fold flat for easy storage and will last a lifetime. I pulled my wicker outdoor chairs from our front patio to use as end chairs. This is an expensive initial investment but works out in the long term given the number of parties we throw and how expensive it is to rent items over and over again.

PRETTY TABLE TOUCHES

I wasn’t prepared for how much I would love this Amazon tablecloth. It says the color is orange online but it is the most lovely shade of peach and great quality. It didn’t even need to be steamed before use which has never happened in the history of tablecloths! I can’t recommend it enough. I bought the 54 x 120″ and it fit the two tables pushed together perfectly. Stripes are always a good idea when setting a party table because they pair beautifully with an array of other linens.

I can’t find the exact napkins I have because I got them when we were in Denmark a few years ago. They’re by Bungalow, a Danish brand. I linked as many similar options as I could below but if I were buying napkins today I’d choose these ones. The napkin rings with their touch of gold are a lovely addition and perfect for a garden party.

BRUNCH TREATS

I have never made sugar cookies before for a party, I usually outsource this job to my talented local friends. However, coming off the busy summer we had, I didn’t get an order in early enough. So I funneled my inner baker and used the flood icing method to get a nice even frosting layer. When it had fully dried, I hand painted the flowers on using this food color set and a very fine paint brush. It was surprisingly easy and I’d do it again. Homemade cinnamon rolls, my mom’s egg and cheese casserole, fresh fruit and some treats from Tatte rounded out the menu.

And that’s about it for this lovely garden party. Stephanie and baby Felicity are matching in this adorable print and I am wearing a dress from Olana. Life is hard, unpredictably so at times, you’ll never regret wildly celebrating the good and lovely things friends! And a new baby is certainly a great reason to throw a garden party. Baby Felicity is sweet like a flower!
