French-Inspired Styles–Outfits from Our Travels

We got back from our travels in France about three weeks ago. It already feels like ages ago. So so many of you wanted information on the outfits I brought with me. This is my compromise post while I work hard to get the itinerary and lovely photos edited. I’m close but not quite there yet and I wanted to get this posted before all the available options sell out. Some already have like the beautiful white lace dress with the open back. Hopefully you’ve already snagged that one. Others (like my favorite swimsuit or the lavender maxi dress) are on sale now making it the perfect time to buy if you are traveling or in the market. Some were old closet gems that I bought ages ago with this trip in mind. In that case, I found the closest options I could. Here are some French-Inspired Styles–Outfits from Our Travels.

| 1. Hat | 2. Tie Back Dress | 3. Blue Floral Skirt | 4. Pearl Earrings | 5. Eyelit Dress | 6. Raffia Belt | 7. Raffia Backpack (perfect for market days in France) | 8. Flutter Sleeve White Dress | 9. My Favorite One Piece | 10. Blue Cotton Poplin Dress | 11. Blue Stripe Shirt | 12. Earrings | 13. Raffia Shoulder Tote | 14. White Linen Shorts |

MATCHING OUTFITS

There were a lot of questions about how I matched the outfits to the location and frankly, that was intentional. I planned our whole trip which means I researched a ton. If you are going on a vacation and want to do a little pre trip shopping, google image your destination and see what feel you get. Are there a lot of blues? Let that guide your choices. I had a vague sense of where we’d be on each day of the trip (a village famous for french blue shutters meant I’d choose something like this light blue dress) and although I brought more than I knew I’d wear so I could feel out the weather and locations, I mostly knew what colors would look great in which spots and what I’d wear.

This kind of forethought for me and the kids not only helps me pack smartly (here’s my favorite carry on suitcase) but makes it basically fool-proof for them to get dressed. Semi-coordinating the family makes for lovely pictures. I’m a visual person and aesthetically beautiful things bring me joy.

Traveling is capturing moments, on film and in your mind of memories that you will always go back to. I want to feel pretty as I explore but also comfortable. There’s nothing like tugging on a too-short-feeling dress while trying to enjoy your surroundings. So I try everything on with a discerning eye for how it will feel to move in them. Pretty only takes you so far. With a little intention and effort, packing for a specific location becomes easy.

| 1. Lounge Dress | 2. Earrings | 3. Comfort Shoes | 4. Woven Belt | 5. Designer Pleated Silk Dress | 6. Riviera Colors Dress | 7. Lavender Maxi Dress | 8. Silk Top | 9. Rust Color Skirt (similar to mine) |

I shy away from trendy usually opting for classic fits with lots of detail, be it embroidery or ruffles or unique neck lines. I’m always on a hunt to find flattering fits that I also feel capable of chasing toddlers in.  High price points and low price points equally find their way into my closet. And often there’s a similar but less expensive option out there. For example this Ciao Lucia dress has a higher price point but this one from Old Navy looks very similar in color and has a great vacation feel.

The pastel stripe dress I wore in the Riviera was probably one of my favorites of the trip. So so comfortable and such beautiful colors. Its also more budget-friendly of a dress. Happy trip shopping and someday soon the itinerary will be up.
