Fall Pictures & Coordinating Outfits for the Family

This is the first time in a long time we did family pictures a bit earlier in the year, before the leaves had a chance to change. I wanted a change of scenery and have been wanting beach pictures of all five of us for years now. We had a magical photoshoot in Duxbury when Kai was a baby and those pictures still mesmerize me. Madison Rae Photography worked her magic between late summer sprinkles and captured one of my favorite photo shoots of all time. There was so much joy. Love this look? Book Madison and scroll below for coordinating outfits for the family.

There’s a lot you can say about me but stuffy I will never be. No matter how fancy the clothes. I want my kids to get dirty, to experience the magic of a moment and not be worried about “messing up” an outfit, even picture outfits. And in typical kid fashion, by the end they were up to their waists in the ocean. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Let your kids have fun and you will end up with the best pictures of them.

One of God’s many good gifts to me is this man right here. Thankful for the inappropriate things whispered in my ear the entire time keeping me laughing and in the moment and making me feel both loved and lovely.

OUTFIT INFO

Aubrey and I let our hair do its thing and wore shades of cranberry. A color I’m loving this season. My dress is Ulla Johnson in the desert rose color. I bought it on sale last winter but you can still find it on second hand sites like Poshmark. I love the detail in Ulla Johnson dresses, especially for special occasions. Aubrey’s dress was an inexpensive find last year that still fits, it’s this exact one. Matt’s linen shirt is H&M.

There’s something about the ocean that will always whisper my name. We’ve been on the hunt for years for a beach house. There’s no place I’d rather be. And it appears my family feels the same way.

WHY PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY?

Why do family pictures? Because you don’t get these years back. You never regret the pictures even when they take intentional time, money and can be exhausting. The magic hour in photography is around dusk which ironically coincides with tired, hungry kids. We brought snacks in the car on the way to Crane beach (about an hour drive) and promised a family movie once home. But we also set the expectation that cooperation was expected.
