There’s something to these changing seasons. The remarkable beauty in it all, even the dry and crunchy. Just being outside was inspiration to try capture it, to forage the backyard and neighborhood fields for the shades of this season. We’re a little under a month away from Thanksgiving here in the States and with that comes a renewed focus on thankful living and preparation for this sweet holiday. For me it’s a bit bittersweet. After she passed away I went into full on distraction mode and hauled her table outside, set it with her plates, foraged the neighborhood for greenery and tried to create a table thinking about her. We said goodbye to you on a Tuesday night. An unfathomable reality. I think deep down I always knew someday I’d have to say goodbye to you but actually having to say goodbye was the most unnatural thing I’ve ever experienced. Death, it seems, is not something we are meant for.
To be honest, as I write this, my mom is in the hospital battling complications associated with breast cancer and we’re all just on autodrive. It feels like a funny time to be posting about Halloween goodies but you know what, I needed a distraction. There’s not a whole lot of Halloween or fall on my mind but I had a few moments of reprieve and putting this grouping together–just the sheer act of it feeling normal amidst a sea of “unnormal” was welcome to my heart. Last fall I had the opportunity to help shower my sweet sister in law as she prepared for the arrival of my little nephew. It was in Napa at my parent’s house and so lovely. Every stinkin’ detail was adorable and made possible by many helping hands. The photography by Sarah Anne Risk is out of this world lovely. If you’re in the bay area I could not recommend her enough.
