Kai is a ray of sunshine. He’s easygoing, fun and kind and a bright, happy 7th birthday party just fit. But it wasn’t always that way! He got all his tears out in his first 9 months of life when the colic almost did this momma in. But it’s what started Finding Lovely so without those hard fought days, none of this would have even started. So thank you Kai! Beauty often comes out of the hard things in life. And in this case, a bright, happy Super Rabbit Boy party. The brightest party I have ever thrown!

Now you may not have a clue what Super Rabbit Boy is. Well let me just fill you in. If you have a 5-8 year old, chances are they’re going to be reading these cute, fun early reader books called Press Start by Thomas Flintham that chronicle the adventures of Super Rabbit Boy. They’re becoming so popular NBC just signed on to turn it into a cartoon. So prepare yourself mommas, you may just be needing to throw a Super Rabbit Boy party of your own in the not-too-distant future. Come along for all the cute details!

THE KID’S TABLES

We’ve used the same natural wood tables for just about every kid’s party since Kai was two. These tables are a steal for how sturdy and well-made they are. I bought 4 sets (1 Table + 2 Chairs) plus some extra chairs 7 years ago. They’re still made, still affordable and a perfect choice if you foresee parties in your future, have extended family gatherings where you need a place for littles to sit or just need a set for a playroom. We got the blue chairs for Cade’s 5th Airplane Party. Similar ones here.

I started by creating a table runner out of 1″ satin ribbon in the same color pattern (not the traditional rainbow pattern) as the diagonal ribbon hung from the ceiling to the floor. This 10 color set of 1″ ribbon is only $13.99 for 250 yards!! This created interest, drama and color without spending a fortune. I bought the colors at Hobby Lobby and picked deeper shades of the traditional rainbow colors mimicking the bold colors of the Press Start series. And finally topped the runner with beautiful, bold arrangements I made with flowers from The Floral Reserve.

PLATES, NAPKINS, AND CUPS OH MY

To make the tables as colorful as possible I made each place setting unique using different colors of the same things. I bought these colorful dinner plate size paper plates by Meri Meri in all the colors that matched the book series: Bright Blue, Pale Yellow, Dark Teal, Mint, Red, Pink and topped them with these Super Hero Plates. The pixelated characters of this cute book series have comment bubbles that say things like “oh bloop.” The super hero plates go nicely with this theme. I contrasted the bold plates with striped napkins in various colors (red, blue, mint, pink, yellow) and these Frenchie-striped cups also in various colors (blue, red, green, ink).

PoppyJackShop make these adorable stir sticks (and party favor tags + cake topper but more on that later). They added a cute Super Rabbit Boy touch to the kid’s tables.

THE BALLOONS

This was the first time I tried the “stick the balloons to the wall” method and it was not my friend. I’d recommend creating a balloon garland and securing it to the wall with command hooks. I finished it the night before and came down the next morning to half of it on the floor. I always try to get the bulk of the decorating done the night before to save my sanity. So putting it back together at 7 am was not fun. I bought this balloon garland collection and then selected specific colors from this Etsy shop (colors: red, plum purple, willow, golden rod, sea glass, pixie, and fiona). Make sure to order different sized balloons, specifically the small ones so you can fill in all the gapes.

THE DESSERT TABLE

My very favorite part! The Super Rabbit Boy cake and rainbow cupcakes were made by Lizzie’s Bakery. Beautiful and SO delicious. The chocolate cake was everyone’s favorite. The lollipops were by Butterflykiss Confections but her shop appears closed right now. These star lollipops are very similar. The adorable sugar cookies were by Eileen at Honey and Lou Baking Co. My kid’s look forward to her cookie art every time. I found the block tower that the cupcakes are on at Hobby Lobby in the basket section and painted it blue. The tablecloth is yardage from Joann’s. The backsplash is a piece of wood I painted with the same pattern as the chapters in the books.

THE MANTEL

I made a cute Press Start sign for the mantel from spare wood in the basement, hand drawing Super Rabbit Boy and painting it like a book cover. The big rainbow arrangement adds a lot of color to the room.

ACTVITIES

The plan had been an epic scavenger hunt through the neighborhood to “save the day” but the forecast wasn’t looking great with rain in the morning. So for the first time in a few years we had to plan for this entire party inside. Day of it turned out beautiful with kids running all over the yard and the scavenger hunt would have been fun. Prepping for bad weather however, we put the bounce house in the garage and turned the dining room into a colorful maze. Inexpensive plastic tablecloths to make it festive and cover the furniture. Matt blindfolded the kids and sent them through the maze. It was a HUGE hit and the kids just kept running through. We also had a coloring station where the kids could “level up” and decorate a wooden star.

PARTY FAVORS

Literally the only Super Rabbit Boy item I could find online that I didn’t have to have specially made were these buttons made by this Etsy shop. So we included these as party favors with books in the series. PoppyJackShop made the cute comment bubble tags that said “thank you for saving the day” and we wrapped the books in colorful ribbon. A perfect finishing touch for this Bright, Happy Super Rabbit Boy Party.

Madison from Madison Rae Photography captured this Bright, Happy Super Rabbit Boy Party beautifully. I cherish these parties and the joy they bring my children. But not having to worry about snapping shots is a gift to myself!
