Woodlawn Ave Remodel Month 6

Can you believe we’ve been at this for 6 months now?! Gosh this month has been the worst as the walls feel like they’ve been coming in on us and spring weather has taken forever to come so we’ve felt very cooped up. That coupled with a April vacation week from school is enough to drive this momma crazy. They took down the temporary wall in the dining room to change the location of the doorway into the butlers pantry and we got a fresh layer of dust everywhere. But we’re sprinting towards that finish line and knee deep in finish work details and that’s the fun stuff. I type this to the sound of the hardwood floor detail going down in the mudroom. Today the cabinetry got delivered and will be installed over the next two days with counters going in on Friday. Now the design details get to shine and I’m so looking forward to sharing every detail with you.

This month saw the start of the millwork and molding–shiplap detail in the stairway, Butler’s Pantry and as a wainscoting detail in the powder room, all of the cased openings and window frames. They’ve been working overtime to get all the pretty details done. They painted the subfloor black as the pine floors will separate over time but we were purposeful to replicate the original pine floors as closely as possible. Our home is on the Wellesley Kitchen and Home Tour on May 5th so come tour it in person! See the WHWJC website for tickets.

And with the start (finally!) of spring weather, the painters got started scrapping the original part of the house and doing some much needed rot repair. Luckily for us, the rot was minimal, just in the corners of the eves and none of the siding was in bad shape. No mold, no bugs, nothing scary. Phew. These are old house worries and just something we were bracing for. It took days of scrapping just to get in ready. Now I had wanted a white house with grey shutters, you all remember but the majority, and I mean like 98% of you guys agreed with my hubby and wanted the house to stay the same color, Benjamin Moore Charcoal Slate. Well when they painted the new garage, it looked a bit more blue than I expected as apparently the original house color has faded over the years. I had that brief panic moment and made my hubby run out and get a sample of Kendall Charcoal (my backup color) and I almost pulled the trigger on changing the color but at over $1000 for paint and labor to fix the part that had already been painted, it just simply wasn’t in the budget. So I will live with it and root for the sun to fade it a bit. And now that the whole house is a fresh coat of the same color, I’m much happier.

When the cement truck arrived to pour the slab in the garage, the boys were besides themselves. Another super cool truck in their own yard! And this time, once it hardened a bit, we got to put our handprints and sign our names. So adorable and a treasured memory.

The team at Cutting Edge Homes brought in a Bobcat to level out the big piles of dirt left in the back yard and back fill around the house. That made a huge difference for the project feeling like it was winding down. My hubby was thrilled to be able to put out grass seed as this time of year, nature is the ultimate waterer, haha.

So that brings you up to date. More posts to come soon as we hit this out of the park! Stay tuned!

Saw your beautiful home on the tour last Saturday. Could you please post a pic of the fridge? We are currently renovating our house here in Wellesley and would love to do something like this.
