Lovely Whites & Blues, A Christmas Home Tour, Part II

Welcome friends, new and old, to part II of our Christmas Home Tour. I’m so excited to join another talented set of bloggers to share the rest of our holiday home. And this is it. The poor playroom got gypped this year, there’s just all kinds of clutter in there right now–real life and not the most fun to photograph. Such is life when half your house is under construction. With my desk wedge into the playroom teepee I’m not nearly as productive, but having a blast reliving my childhood.

Wasn’t Kayla at Plum Pretty Decor and Design’s office and guest room glorious! I loved every detail! Such pretty holiday touches.

Although we’re in the middle of a remodel right now to update this old home and do some much needed repairs (ahhhh, peeling paint), if you angle the camera just the right amount and squint, you can’t even see all the construction tape, fencing and piles of dirt. Haha! The porch is always fun to decorate and I wasn’t about to let all the construction chaos steal Christmas–some greenery, wreaths and lovely ribbon and that’s all it really needs. This year I bought faux garland from Michaels and flanked the front door with two trees we had inside last year.

I’m kinda having fun making wreaths these days. You can really save $$ and aside from hot glue burns it’s relatively painless.  A $5 faux wreath frame with sprigs of other faux greenery added in for texture, some off-centered magnolia blooms and berries add just the right touch of merry.

Our entry is a bit of a tight squeeze right now. Our contractor temporarily relocated our washer and dryer to the nook under the stairs while the remodel and addition is underway. I’m so thankful to have a washer and dryer but you can imagine it makes hanging coats and preschool backpacks a bit tricky.

Last year we purchased several faux cedar garlands from Terrain. They are so realistic it is astounding. I love the loose, natural feel. And no more dropped needles to pull out of toddler’s mouths. Mom win. I added in other kinds of faux greenery for texture and interest. There are 3 faux cedar garlands strung together to make the garland for the stairway.

I ordered natural wood beads in bulk in two sizes from Amazon: 16 mm and 20mm. I strung them on thin twine spacing them one 20mm bead and then three 16mm beads followed by another 20 mm bead. I repeated this pattern until I had enough garland to drape nicely on the stairway.

I used our entry table to set up a little Christmas village with sparkly trees. It’s lovely in its simplicity with just the right amount of merry.

I buy my silk ribbon off Etsy. I love the ShyMrytle shop. These two tones of silk, a beige and cream go well together. I need to remember to buy more though. I had this same problem last year. As a reference for you…I bought 4 yards and that made only 3 bows.

These beautiful pictures were taken by my dear friend Ruthie of Ruth Eileen Photography. She is a local New England photographer and is SO talented.

I hope you enjoyed the Christmas touches on our porch and in the entry. Please head on over to my sweet friend Lindsey at Revive and Design. She’s sharing her beautiful living room and entry and you won’t want to miss all the lovely.

OMG!!! I can’t wait to see what else you have in store!! It is breathtaking!! Thank you for letting me know about Terrain, the Etsy shop and the wood beads. But I do have a question, how many beads of each size did you order? This is a great idea!!

Hi Amy! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked it! I ended up needing 400 (16 mm beads) and 200 (20 mm beads) for both the bead snowflakes above the mantel and a total of 19 feet of garland. It went a long way! For reference, I made a 6.5 ft wood bead garland for the mantel and 12.5 feet of garland for the stairway.
