Cade’s Big Boy Reveal with Therapedic

Oh my gosh it’s finally done! Cade’s big boy room was so fun to plan and even more fun to see come together. It was a true labor of love, especially on my husband’s part, and filled with DIYs I promise to share more details on later. We worked some looong hours and even had friends help us until midnight one night with the details. Bless your hearts Macleods. I did an inspiration board blog post a few months back, you can see it here and now you get to see the final product brought to you by the amazing brand, Therapedic Inc and Agility Bed. They’ve been so patient as my hubby and I figured out exactly how to install board and batten and hang that beautiful statement wallpaper.

So one of the things we really wanted to accomplish was covering as much wall as possible. Our home was built in 1879 and that means lead. Hence the wood board and batten covering more than half the wall all the way around the room and a full accent wall on the bedside. We aren’t expert wood workers so this was a true DIY and learn-as-you-go scenario. Matt nailed up plywood and then laid the trim work over. We’re so happy with the outcome. Sweet Cade was quite adamant about green as it is his favorite color. I’m not a huge green fan so I had to take a deep breath while sampling colors but this is a beautiful shade, Sherwin Williams Rosemary at 50% strength. It’s muted and has a grey tinge to it. Love at first brush stroke.

Another first for us was using a paint sprayer my hubby bought at Home Depot. It was by Wagner, called Flexion 3000 (similar one here) and definitely not the cheapest one out there but far from the most expensive at ~$150. So many of you asked about it. Once he figured out how to use it, it really was a worthwhile investment. Priming the walls white first helped us figure out how the sprayer worked and provided a nice smooth finish for the satin green.

Here’s the “before” shot above. It was certainly a cute room but it was his nursery from the old house plopped into his new room. Now that he’s a sweet, opinionated 4 year old I’m excited for him to grow into his new space.

We didn’t buy many new items for Cade’s new big boy room because we wanted to stay in budget and not be wasteful with what we already had but the few we did buy I’m super pleased with. One happy purchase was the dresser. His original nursery dresser was a Craigslist find that I painted blue and added sweet knobs to. Now because it was older and painted by yours truly, the drawers weren’t the easiest to open and I really wanted something that was going to last all the way through his college years as cute as those owl knobs were. This is the Hampton Dresser from PBteen in Smoked Grey, a perfect find. Wait for a sale but I promise you’ll be so pleased with it.

The beautiful Moroccan rug is from Splendid Rugs one of my absolute favorite Etsy shops for both vintage Turkish rugs and unique Moroccan rugs. Murat Ozturk was wonderful to work with. As these are handmade you can get the threading in different colors but I wanted ours exactly as pictured in the Etsy shop. It came quickly even though handmade and immediately pulled the whole room together. I had been wanting this rug for a long long time so I’m thrilled to see it in our home. It’s so soft underfoot and looks great as a layered rug.

We reused Cade’s crib as it was one of those 3-in-1 contraptions that go from crib all the way to full size bed. I wasn’t ready to commit to a new bed not knowing if the boys will share a bedroom someday. His crib conversion provided the perfect platform for Cade’s new big boy mattress–a full size Therapedic Agility Mattress which will knock your socks off. I’ve seen but never purchased those mattresses that arrive in a box and when it showed up I was a little skeptical. I honestly envisioned one of those flat foam mattresses but when my hubby started taking the plastic off it grew into a full size, squishy and oh-so-comfortable mattress. Sold. No scheduling a mattress delivery. It was the perfect choice for his room.

We also got the Therapedic 450 count cotton sateen sheet set from Bed, Bath and Beyond. They’re soft, wrinkle resistant and no pill, which for this momma just means much easier to keep looking nice. I love the fitted sheet with it’s wide elastic band, something I haven’t seen before and a nifty touch that makes them easier to get on the mattress.

Let’s face it, this is a little boy’s room and a mattress pad is a must. It’ll protect the mattress and make it even more comfortable. The Therapedic Mattress Pad has a 500 thread count and is filled with tencel, so it’s definitely a bonus for kiddos that suffer from allergies as it is down-free.

Last but not least, the amazing pillows–Therapedic TruCool Memory Foam  My hubby and I realized we had never bought pillows as adults as crazy as that sounds. But when you’re outfitting a kid’s bed it’s something we realized we needed to get him. I like these because they’re relatively low profile and flat, perfect for little necks as they don’t prop you up so high. And they’re so comfortable. These are all the little items that make a room comfortable that you don’t even see but make all the difference in the livability of a space.

The curtains were the result of a quick internet hunt. I really wanted a linen-looking material that was almost a parchment or ivory to match the background of the wallpaper. But all those kinds of curtains wouldn’t have been delivered on time. The ceiling height in our home is so high we need to buy the 108″ in ones and that gets pricey fast. These ones are perfect and even though they are white, they really go a long way to brightening the room. And you can’t beat the price, 6 curtain panels for ~$100. Amazon win. I pinch pleated the tops of the plain tab curtain panel and clipped them to give them a more refined, finished look. I should have those videos up soon on Instagram highlights.

The beautiful jungle dream wallpaper by Aimee Wilder was one that I had been wanting different friends and clients to use for years. I think it was probably intimidating since its such a bold and busy print but how cute!!! Oh my word was I ever excited when it finally arrived. It goes well the green board and batten and makes my sweet little four year old sooo happy. It does come in other color ways if you love the print but aren’t sure about the ivory/black combo.

This post is sponsored by Therapedic International and Agility Bed Inc but all of the opinions expressed here are my own. These are definitely products I stand behind and am thrilled to have in sweet Cade’s big boy room.

Hi! I love your kitchen and was wondering if you have a source page for tile, paint , etc. also wondering if you talk any about the distressed beams above the window. Just beautiful! Thanks

Hi! I love Cade’s room! Can you tell me where you got his jute rug? I want to layer one in my son’s room, too, and it’s the perfect color tone. Thank you!

Hi there Tania, it is from Joss and Main. Really inexpensive and super soft. But it does shed. I still consider it a great rug but it needs a bit of vacuuming.

Hi! I absolutely love this room. I just had a quick question for you. I am wondering what you meant by “Sherwin Williams Rosemary at 50% strength” because I am in love with the color! Do you mean 50% brighter or less saturated or something else I’m totally missing here lol . Thank you so much!

    • Finding Lovely says:

Hi Ellie, Great question. 50% less saturated is a good way of saying it. I usually ask the paint store to make a color at 50% strength when I like the color but want it to be lighter.
