Aubrey and I were walking in the woods recently and delighted to see the maple seed pods spiraling through the air. I told her they looked like fairy wings. Oh the places we get inspiration for fall decor! Because I knew in that instance what garland I would make for the kid’s fall playroom bookshelves. This Acorn Fairies Fall Garland adds that bit of whimsy to their reading corner and was a fun project for me. I swear when the world feels crazy, talking a walk in the woods and doing something with my hands makes all the difference. Fall decor can come in many different forms, I’m delighted to join my friends on this fall decor blog hop!
Most of the supplies needed are natural so go on a walk and you’ll likely come across what you need. I used Beech tree nut husks for the fairy skirts. Our local library has a huge tree out front; I grab a few husks whenever I’m returning books and save them for crafts. You can see my Beech Nut Husk Wreath here. If you don’t have a tree nearby, here’s an Etsy link to some. They flair open like a fairy skirt but you could use just about anything with a similar shape, even gluing on leaves to get the effect. I hunted for small and large acorns that still had their hats and some lichen, moss, ferns and small flowers. You’ll need scissors, a hot glue gun and extra glue sticks, a fine tipped black marker and rope to make the garland. I used this grapevine wrapped wire for a woodsy look. Because it is so strong, it held the fairies nicely.
Heat up your hot glue gun and start grouping your acorns. Some will fit together nicer than others. If you look closely at an acorn, you have the acorn top (the hat) and at the bottom, the acorn comes to a point. Use that point as a nose by turning your acorn from vertical (up and down with the hat on top) to more horizontal. See the pictures above. If the acorn hats are lose, secure with a bit of hot glue. I cut the top off the Beech Nut husk to create a flat spot for the acorn body to be glued on. Next I added legs, the maple seeds for wings (4 total) and glued on the arms. Decorate your Acorn Fairy with bits of moss, lichen, leaves or flowers. Two tiny black dots make the eyes. And voila, an Acorn Fairy.
We added a few new fall-themed books to the shelves this year. A hands down favorite is one called “Slow Down and Be Here Now”. I can’t recommend that one enough. “Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” will remain a fall favorite and a new addition is “If You Find a Leaf.” What are some of your favorites?
The Tiny Seed | The Leaf Thief | If You Find a Leaf | Sweep | The Very Hungry Caterpillar First Fall | Fletcher and the Falling Leaves | Autumn is Here | Evergreen | Leif and the Fall| The Hidden World of Gnomes | The Little Rooster | In the Middle of Fall | Because of an Acorn | Leaves | Slow Down and Be Here Now | The Roll Away Pumpkin | The Hundred Year Barn | Maine Marmalade |

Dough Bowl Candle DIY | Happy Happy Nester
Creating a dough bowl candle DIY is an easy and beautiful way to add handmade charm to your home décor. These rustic candles not only bring a cozy glow to any space but can also be customized with seasonal details to match your style. For mine, I used a whitewashed wooden bowl and decorated the top of the wax with mini wax pumpkins, delicate leaves, and a sprinkling of dried flowers. The result is a light, airy candle that looks just as stunning on a coffee table as it does as a centerpiece for fall table.
