A Thankful Thanksgiving With Boat Placecards

Coming up in a few short weeks is Thanksgiving. We’re headed home to California and hoping for a warmer one as we gear up for a New England winter. Gotta soak up as much Vit D as possible. And as much as I’d like to dive straight into Christmas decorating, I can’t rush the holidays along. I love Thanksgiving, for all that it entails, for family time and yummy food and ultimately a heart of thankfulness.

I absolutely love these little origami “Mayflower” boats I turned into place cards. It took me a few times of watching this YouTube video by Origami 4ik to pull them off but boy are they cute. I used regular white card stock for the boat base and cut up a brown paper bag for the sails. Once the boat was made, I stuck a skewer through the sail and hot glued it along the inside crease of the origami boat. I used the same white card stock for the name tag flags. Easy and adorable and with 2 and 4 year old boys running haywire, these Mayflowers keep sailing away from the table.

Not your traditional richer color tones for Thanksgiving like last year’s color palette, I kept it light and airy with white flowers and those easy wheat wreaths I made last year for my family room windows. Turns out they are the perfect size to stick in my bubble glass vases from Smith and Hawken at Target. I bought these vases for Kai’s 3rd birthday party this upcoming weekend because they are a thick glass and larger at the bottom than the top-a design that makes them nearly impossible to tip over. Kinda perfect if you’ve got littles around. Check back soon to see how we use them for his party day.

The plates, both the larger white dinner plates and the navy grid pattern plates are from HomeGoods. I had a hard time finding anything similar online but tried to link a few similar-ish options below. The woven placemats are from Target. A simple, happy Thanksgiving table I hope you’ve enjoyed!
