Aside from really wanting to someday hang sweet family pictures in a grouping on our wall or constantly wanting to shop Studio McGee’s online store for accessories, it’s done. YAY!!!!

As with any design I tackle, I’d always like to splurge a little more and save a little less so it’s a “reign yourself in Jackie” kind of thing. We are on our 3rd set of architectural plans with our contractor and architect. In a few short months this space won’t even be our master bedroom anymore but a guest room / kid room. So why bother you ask? Well. Because I’m exhausted after the end of a long day chasing babies and for 2 years we lived with boxes and files and crap in every corner and I have every intention to transition the furniture and rugs over to the new room once it is built. Long story short, I love this kind of thing. I love taking an ordinary room and making it lovely even if it will be something else someday. We kept it neutral on purpose so it can transition into its new role more easily in the future.

Given a budget was in order, I did not go out and buy all new furniture. The only new furniture purchase was the headboard from One Kings Lane. Everything else was preexisting (side tables from Wayfair and the bench from Homegoods). I painted our inherited dresser with chalk paint and went to a stone yard to find a marble slab remnant to replace the old stone top. The grey color and white top are a lovely, more modern update.

Believe it or not, the white velvet drapes are from Amazon by Half Price Drapes and I could not be more impressed. They are fully lined blackout drapes with weights in the bottom corners, 50×108″ and they were only $65 per panel. I know I know. I’ll give you a minute to pick your chin up off the floor. They are AMAZING. Luxurious, well-made wonders of engineering. Although white, they soften the room and block the light.

My hubby rigged the curtain rods to make the work. They are also from Amazon but we have a weird window nook situation and I had to buy 4 sets of rods in order to the get the pieces we needed to make the L shapes. Long long story, it involved elbow joints purchased separately, lots of gorilla glue, wooden dowels and a sprinkle of choice words. But instead of paying a custom price for custom curtain rods, the whole project cost ~$175. And as much as I would love beautiful sea grass roman shades, that is a purchase for another day.

The braided wool rug under our bed is a 9×12 from RUGS USA (Textures B01 Braided Rug). It is soft and the perfect ivory. The runner next to the dresser is also from RUGS USA (Treasures ZG13 Abstract Vintage Rug).

The wall color is the same color in our boys’ playroom, Benjamin Moore Paper White. The trim is just your standard white, decorator’s white. I’d love to do a feature wall or add wall paper to the closets but this is just a refresh and here I am reigning myself in. The duvet bedding is from Potterybarn–the Tencel Duvet cover. Oh. My. Goodness. It is so soft. I have my eye on the Tencel sheets someday too. The pretty sheets on the bed are from Anthropologie.
