Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Hearts

Chocolate dipped strawberries are almost synonymous with Valentine’s Day. By cutting the top into a “V” you get that cute heart shape. Now you see chocolate strawberries all the time, but on a cute wood stick and cut into hearts!?! It’s an adorable way to present them…perfect for a Valentine’s Day Party, school treat or movie night at home.

As it turns out, there’s a pretty good reason people don’t cut the tops off strawberries. Given the first one I stuck the stick into fell right off of it. Whoops. Strawberries are a teeny bit hollow inside. Enter the necessity of filling them with chocolate. Doesn’t seem like a bad idea does it. My husband was quite pleased with this discovery as he is the official taster of my screwball ideas. Haha!

INGREDIENTS

  • Melting Chocolate (I used Ghiradelli melting wafers)
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Sprinkles
  • Wood sticks or lollipop sticks (these wood ones are from Michaels)
  • Knife and cutting board

INSTRUCTIONS

Wash strawberries and pat dry.

Start by prepping your strawberries. Cut a deep “V” in the top of the strawberry which removes the green and makes that “top of a heart” part.

I cut a tiny bit off the bottom of the strawberry so it would stand upright. If you don’t do this you end up with rolling strawberries.

I melted a small amount of chocolate in a microwave safe mug. Fill each crevice of the hollow strawberry with a tiny bit of chocolate. I used the back of a knife to drip it in. It doesn’t take much. Insert the sticks and let set in refrigerator for 10 minutes.

Once the sticks are good and secure, melt the rest of the chocolate wafers in the microwave safe mug (follow instructions on the back of the chocolate bag). It only took about 30 seconds. The mug was a nice size, easy to dip the strawberries into. Let excess chocolate drip off and dip end in sprinkles.

Store them in the refrigerator until ready to serve. I wrapped mine loosely with tin foil.
